Belgrade holds Sa'di poetry night
'Sa'di Poetry and Wisdom Night' was held in Belgrade to commemorate the great Persian classical poet Sa'di Shirazi.

Organized by the Iranian Cultural Center in Serbia, the event was attended by Persian language lovers, Iranian and Serbian cultural figures and university professors, IRNA reported.

In the meeting, Iran's Cultural Attaché in Serbia Mahmoud Shalouei referred to Sa'di's status in Persian literature and said, "Sa'di is not only a poet, but he is also a wise scholar whose numerous travels and encounters with other nations made him produce a treasure trove of thoughts and wisdom through his masterpieces."

He also discussed Sa'di's ideology and recited a number of his rhymes.

Some of Sa'di's books such as 'Bustan' were featured on the sidelines of the event.

Sa'di's best known works are 'Bustan' completed in 1257 AD and 'Golestan' (The Rose Garden) in 1258 AD.

'Bustan' is entirely in verse (epic meter) and consists of stories aptly illustrating the standard virtues recommended to Muslims (justice, liberality, modesty, contentment) as well as of reflections on the behavior of dervishes and their ecstatic practices.

'Golestan' is mainly in prose and contains stories and personal anecdotes. The text is interspersed with a variety of short poems, containing aphorisms, advice, and humorous reflections.
