Zarif hails Tunisia’s moderate policies
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday met with Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid in Tunis and hailed Tunisia for its moderate policies.

Zarif expressed concern about the spread of terrorism, extremism and sectarianism in the Middle East and North Africa and hailed Tunisia for pursuing an “independent, logical and moderate policy”.

Iranian top diplomat called for strengthening of bilateral economic and cultural ties. “There are ample grounds for cooperation between Iran and Tunisia especially in economic and cultural domains,” Zarif told reporters after meeting Essid.

Zarif said Tunisia serves as a successful example of people’s participation in state affairs for Muslim countries as he began his third regional tour following the conclusion of Iran nuclear agreement.

Tunisia is a successful example of people's presence in the Muslim world and we are happy that this example has been doing well, Zarif said upon his arrival in Tunis on Monday, Press TV reported.

“The region is grappling with such issues as extremism and instability. Ongoing instability in Libya, Iraq, Syria and Yemen should be addressed through dialogue between Muslim countries,” Zarif said.

Heading a high-ranking political-economic delegation, Zarif left Tehran for Tunis on Monday and will then leave for Algeria to hold talks with the country’s senior officials on Tuesday.

During the second round of his regional tours after Iran and world powers struck a historic nuclear agreement in Austria, Zarif paid visits to Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan and India in mid-August. He had earlier traveled to Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq in July.
