Iran, Serbia agree on boosting ties
Iran-Serbia parliamentary friendship groups urged enhancing relations between the two countries.

An Iranian delegation headed by Parvaneh Salahshouri arrived in Belgrade on Monday and met with their counterparts in Serbia parliament, IRNA reported.

Salahshouri described the bilateral ties as 'growing' and called for visa waivering and establishing direct flights to promote the relations between Iran and Serbia.

“Women empowerment is on the Iranian government and parliament's agendas, and contrary to most of the countries in the world that allocate parliamentary chairs quota to women, the Iranian female Members of Parliament have attained the chairs based on their merits and in competition with their male rivals,” she said.

“So, they play a significant role in the parliament despite their small number,” Salahsouhri added.

Head of parliamentary friendship group in Serbia Meho Omerovic, in the meeting, welcomed any enhancement of parliamentary relations, calling it the sign of Iran-Serbia friendship.

He also described Iran's economic progress during sanctions era 'exemplary' and urged Serbia to use the country's experience in different fields.

Six members of the Iranian friendship group are visiting Serbia upon an invitation by their Serbian counterparts. The Serbian parliament has 250 members, 23 of whom are also members of Iran-Serbia friendship group.

The Iranian delegation has also met with Serbia Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.
