Kazakhstan to resume wheat deliveries to Iran
In the course of a visit of a Kazakh delegation to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the parties discussed the possibility of lifting restrictions on Kazakh wheat imports and cancelling the “flag tax” by the Iranian government in order to create equal terms for Kazakh and Iranian shipping companies in the Caspian Sea.

During the talks, the heads of the relevant agencies agreed on the possible launch of joint investment projects for growing and processing rice and priority oilseeds with their further export to Iran via Caspian Sea ports, TASS reported.

The Iranian party proposed to exploit the opportunity of processing Kazakh wheat at Iranian mills in order to sell the processed products to other countries through Iran’s transit potential.

In addition, JSC Food Contract Corporation has taken actions for expanding export flows to Iran. In particular, a memorandum was signed on supplying 100,000 tons of grains. Also, an agreement was reached with Iran’s largest company Iran Feed Industry Association on exporting 200,000 tons of feed crops, including rapeseed, cake and barley, to the country by the end of 2017.

Before the imposition of wheat import restrictions by Iran (March 2016), the country was a major end market for Kazakh wheat.
