Iran allocates $3.5b for medicine, medical equipment imports
An Iranian official said the allocation of budget for importing pharmaceutical and medical products is in progress without a hitch, noting that $3.5 billion has so far been disbursed for the purpose.

Head of Iran's Food and Drug Administration Gholamreza Jafari further said there is no problem in allocating funds for the import of pharmaceutical material and medical equipment, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He pointed out that $2 billion has been allotted for meeting domestic demand for medicine and basic pharmaceutical material while $1.5 billion in funds has been made available for importing medical equipment.

In a provisional verdict in October, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the US government should lift all bans on the free export of humanitarian goods such as food and medicine to Iran which have been reimposed after Washington's withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

The ICJ, which is based in The Hague and is also known as the World Court, is the United Nations tribunal for resolving international disputes. Iran's filing asks the ICJ to order the United States to provisionally lift its sanctions ahead of more detailed arguments.
