US to repatriate 1,784 relics to Iran
The US will repatriate 1,784 Iranian antiques including clay tablets, said the head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO).

Ali Asghar Mounesan, who is also a vice president, said on the sidelines of the 10th Pars Tourism Exhibition in Shiraz, Fars Province, that the permission to repatriate the clay tablets from the ancient city of Persepolis has been issued by the US Treasury Department, IRNA wrote.

The consignment was slated to be delivered in Iran but under the pretext of sanctions and insurance-related issues, US officials had demanded that Iran should take delivery of the consignment in the United States, he said, adding, "Eventually, we expect to receive the objects in The Hague."

Highlighting that Chicago University is estimated to hold over 11,000 Persian relics, which were planned to be repatriated over a period of three years, said Mounesan, noting, "However we did not accept this and we are in talks to have them returned sooner."
