Qassemi: Iran in talks with Pakistan to release border guards
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said talks with the Pakistani side is underway to release Iranian border guards abducted by the terrorists based in Pakistan.

On October 15, the Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group infiltrated the country from the Pakistani side of the border and took hostage 12 border guards, local Basij forces, and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) members in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan.

Five of them were released later following consultations with Pakistani officials.

Following the incident, Iran’s foreign minister immediately visited Pakistan and discussed the issue with the country’s top officials and the outcome was the release of five border guards, Qassemi said in an interview with IRNA.

Answering a question about the possibility of joint military action against terrorists, the spokesman said there is an agreement between Tehran and Islamabad to strengthen security at the borders, stressing that the two countries believe that the border is a frontier of peace and friendship and should remain a frontier of peace.

Qassemi noted, “With the will on both sides, we will definitely see safer borders in this area, and the enemies do not succeed in creating insecurity in the region.”
