IRGC: Iran will maintain presence in Syria
The head of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said Wednesday there would be no withdrawal of Iranian military advisers from Syria as he dismissed Israel’s threats.

"All military and revolutionary advisers, as well as equipment and weapons necessary for training and empowering the Islamic resistance fighters and for supporting the oppressed people of Syria... will be kept there," Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the IRGC top commander said, ISNA reported.

It was an apparent response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who on Tuesday warned Iran to remove its forces from Syria. Netanyahu said that Israel would continue to attack Iranians in Syria unless they quickly get out of there.

"Let me advise them – get out of there fast, because we'll continue our forceful policy of attacking, as we promised and are doing, fearlessly and relentlessly," Netanyahu said.

Jafari dismissed Israel's "ridiculous threats", and warned Israel against “playing with the lion’s tail.”

"Just know that you are playing with the lion's tail.

"Be afraid of the day that Iran's precision missiles roar onto your head and revenge all the blood you have spilled of innocent Muslims in the region," he said, though he added that Iran was holding back due to its "revolutionary patience".

Iran and Russia have both backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a seven-year war against terrorists. Tehran denies sending regular troops to fight in Syria, saying it has only provided military advisers.
